About Valentine Press

Valentine Press was established in 2013 to publish one book, “Witch Girl and The Push”, by Lyn Gain. The venture has now expanded with new books under consideration as new authors approach us. The two principals are Lyn Gain (Publisher) and April Pressler (Senior Associate, Communications and Media).

Lyn Gain Founder and PublisherLyn Gain is the founder of Valentine Press. After a successful career in social advocacy, Lyn left her job as Director of the NSW Council of Social Service and semi-retired to the country (Bellingen) and part-time academe.

After many years of writing and publishing books on social policy and research, she wrote “Witch Girl and the Push”. In her venture into the world of traditional publishing she learnt a lot, enough to set up her own independent publishing company, where the value of a book is judged on the quality of its writing and what it has to say, not on traditional publishers’ views of whether it will make a lot of money through appealing to the general public. As well as overall management, Lyn is responsible for production and distribution at Valentine Press.

AP 2014April Pressler is a Sydney-based communications professional with experience in government, media, business, NFP and other sectors. She has managed strategic stakeholder relations, events, sponsorships, memberships, websites, marketing and digital systems and she has held various positions as a journalist, editor and marketing manager. She was also inaugural director of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s (DFAT) Sydney International Media Centre in 1996, and as a journalist/public affairs officer with DFAT and the former Australian Information Service, she managed official foreign media visits programs in Canberra and Australia’s public affairs programs on postings in Mexico, Central & South America, Italy and the Philippines. April brings her journalistic, networking, marketing and other communications skills to Valentine Press, as Senior Associate Communications and Media.

How it all works

When we have the book print ready (or e-book formatted), Valentine Press uses Lightning Source for print on demand, distribution and fulfilment of orders, and Ingram Spark for e-books. Lightning Source and Ingram Spark are part of the Ingram Content Group, the world’s largest distributor of print and digital content.  Books published by Valentine Press will also be listed via Ingram’s international distribution channels for either printed or e-books.
